Ok folks - here goes....
I make no apology for this being VERY basic and potentially condescending, but I have to cater for all.
The list below is the BASIC principles of the Domestic game, I will publish a number of other guides including more technical terms (formations, the dreaded offside, league structure etc) and information on European and global competition.
Please feel free to add comments, ask questions, recommend modifications/additions below!

I make no apology for this being VERY basic and potentially condescending, but I have to cater for all.
The list below is the BASIC principles of the Domestic game, I will publish a number of other guides including more technical terms (formations, the dreaded offside, league structure etc) and information on European and global competition.
- Each team consists of 11 players, and 7 substitutes. An unlimited number of additional players make up "the squad". The team can be made up of any squad members. The team is chosen (usually) and given instruction by the manager and his staff.
- A domestic match is played over 90 minutes, split into two halves of 45 minutes each. Injury time sometimes known as added time can be added as deemed fit by the officials at the end of each half. This is usually relative to the amount of play lost to injuries and/or substitutions
- The officials for each game consist of a referee, 2x assistant referee, and 4th official. The referee has the final say on decisions and the other officials are there to provide support.
- The aim of the game is to score as many goals as possible whilst conceding as few as possible
- The team that scores the most goals and therefore wins the match is awarded 3 points. The team that loses has zero. If the score is even at the end of the match then 1 point is awarded to each team.
- Each team in the league will play each other twice, once on their home ground and once away from home.
- The points are acrrued throughout the season and make up a league table. If teams are level on points then their rank is determined by goal difference (total goals scored - total goals conceded) with the higher goal difference taking the higher position.
